Everything you want to know about functional nutritional therapy, working with Krystal, and what to expect from J&J Holistic — answered thoroughly and honestly.
J&J Holistic Nutritional Therapy is a faith-centered, evidence-based functional nutrition practice founded and led by Krystal Johnson, FNTP, CH, CN — a U.S. Air Force Veteran and the #1 holistic nutritionist in Frisco, TX. The practice is built on the belief that the body was designed by God with an extraordinary capacity to heal when provided with the right nutritional foundation.
Rather than treating individual symptoms, J&J Holistic uses comprehensive functional assessment tools — including the Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (NAQ) and Symptom Burden Graph — to identify root-cause imbalances across every body system. All services are delivered via telehealth, making expert holistic nutrition care accessible to clients nationwide. The practice is cash-pay only, which means care decisions are driven entirely by your health needs — not insurance limitations.
Krystal Johnson is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), Certified Herbalist (CH), and Certified Nutritionist (CN) based in Frisco, TX. Krystal's background in military service informs her discipline, thoroughness, and commitment to the clients she serves.
Krystal founded J&J Holistic Nutritional Therapy with a mission to deliver clinical-quality, faith-centered nutritional care without the constraints of the insurance-driven healthcare system. Her specialties include digestive health, hormone balance, thyroid support, skin conditions, trauma-informed nutrition, and pediatric nutritional therapy. She works with clients across the country via telehealth from her Frisco, TX practice. You can learn more about Krystal's background on the About Krystal page.
J&J Holistic Nutritional Therapy's office is located at 4645 Avon Ln Suite 340, Frisco, TX 75033. However, all patient appointments are conducted exclusively via telehealth — we do not offer in-person visits. This is an intentional design that allows us to serve clients nationwide and eliminates barriers like geography, commute, and scheduling constraints.
Telehealth appointments are conducted through Practice Better, a HIPAA-compliant patient portal platform. All you need is a device with a camera, a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Our client base spans the United States, and every client receives the same level of personalized, comprehensive care regardless of their location.
Several things set J&J Holistic apart. First, the use of the Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (NAQ) and Symptom Burden Graph provides a level of clinical depth that most nutrition practices don't offer — mapping your symptom patterns across every body system to reveal root-cause patterns, not just surface complaints. Second, Krystal's faith-centered approach integrates a whole-body philosophy that honors the spiritual dimension of health alongside the physical and biochemical.
Third, the cash-pay, no-insurance model means Krystal's recommendations are never filtered through insurance coverage criteria — you receive what your body actually needs, not what a claims department approves. Finally, as a U.S. Air Force Veteran and BBB Award Winner, Krystal brings a level of professional accountability and personal integrity that is embedded in every aspect of care at J&J Holistic. This is not a one-size-fits-all nutrition practice — every protocol is built specifically for the individual in front of her.
A Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) is a credentialed nutrition professional trained through the Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA). FNTPs complete rigorous coursework in biochemistry, physiology, and functional assessment — learning to evaluate nutritional deficiencies, digestive dysfunction, blood sugar dysregulation, mineral imbalances, and fatty acid deficiencies using both clinical tools and the body's own feedback signals.
Unlike conventional dietitians, whose scope focuses primarily on disease management through caloric and macronutrient guidelines, FNTPs take a root-cause approach to nutrition — asking not just "what should you eat," but "why is your body struggling and what does it need to function optimally?" The FNTP designation from the NTA is one of the most comprehensive functional nutrition credentials available.
The Initial Interview is the cornerstone of the J&J Holistic patient experience. Before the appointment, you'll complete your Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (NAQ) through Practice Better — a detailed symptom survey that covers every body system. Krystal reviews your NAQ in full before your session and uses it to build your Symptom Burden Graph.
During the appointment itself, Krystal deep-dives into your health history, discusses the patterns revealed by your Symptom Burden Graph, reviews any existing lab work, and begins designing your personalized nutritional protocol. This isn't a 15-minute check-in — it's a thorough, unhurried conversation about your health from every angle. By the end of your Initial Interview, Krystal will have the foundation she needs to build a protocol specific to your body, your goals, and your life. Learn more about our approach here.
The Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire (NAQ) is a comprehensive, functional symptom survey you'll complete before your Initial Interview. It contains several hundred questions about symptoms across every body system — including digestion, energy, sleep, hormones, skin, mood, cardiovascular health, immune function, and more. The more thoroughly and honestly you complete the NAQ, the more Krystal can tailor your protocol.
The NAQ is not a diagnostic tool — it is a clinical assessment instrument that reveals patterns of nutritional stress and dysfunction across your body. Think of it as a full-body report card that tells Krystal where your body is working hard and where it needs the most support. It is completed through your secure Practice Better patient portal and typically takes 20–40 minutes to finish.
The Symptom Burden Graph is a visual analysis of your NAQ data. It scores your symptoms by body system — digestive, hormonal, neurological, cardiovascular, immune, etc. — and presents the results as a graph that clearly shows which systems carry the highest burden. This visual tool is one of Krystal's most powerful clinical instruments because it transforms hundreds of symptom data points into an actionable picture of your physiological priorities.
Krystal uses the Symptom Burden Graph to prioritize your healing protocol, addressing the systems under the greatest stress first. At each follow-up appointment, you complete an updated NAQ, and Krystal generates a new Symptom Burden Graph to measure your progress and adjust your protocol accordingly. It is one of the primary ways you can objectively track your improvement over time. Read more about what the SBG reveals in the Wellness Journal.
Protocol length varies significantly from person to person. Many clients begin noticing meaningful improvements in energy, digestion, and symptom relief within 30–90 days of beginning their protocol. More complex or longstanding conditions — particularly those involving hormonal imbalances, autoimmune patterns, neurological symptoms, or multi-system dysfunction — may require 6–12 months of active support and protocol refinement.
Krystal does not set arbitrary timelines. Your protocol evolves at every follow-up appointment based on how your body is responding. Healing is not linear, and your support structure is designed to adapt alongside you. The goal is always lasting, sustainable improvement — not a quick fix that fades when the supplements run out.
Yes. J&J Holistic offers pediatric nutritional therapy services for both children and adolescents. The Child Protocol is available for $320 and the Teen Protocol for $390. Krystal approaches pediatric nutrition with care and specificity — accounting for developmental stage, growth patterns, gut health, behavioral concerns, school performance, immune support, and the unique nutritional demands of developing bodies and brains.
Parental or guardian involvement and written consent are required for all minor clients. Telehealth appointments for children typically include a parent or guardian on the call. If your family is navigating ADHD, food sensitivities, chronic illness, digestive issues, or immune challenges in a child, a pediatric nutrition assessment can be a meaningful part of your child's care team.
J&J Holistic offers transparent, tiered pricing. The Initial Interview à la carte is $250. The Basic Protocol is $500 and includes the Initial Interview, a 30-day follow-up appointment, and your personalized protocol. The All-In Package is $1,675 and includes comprehensive support across multiple follow-ups over an extended period. Pediatric services are priced at $320 for the Child Protocol and $390 for the Teen Protocol.
For clients seeking ongoing monthly support, the In-House Wellness Plan is available at $59.95/month for individuals and $129.95/month for families (up to 4 members). All Veterans — active duty, retired, and dependents — receive a 20% discount on services. Full service details are available on the Services page.
No. J&J Holistic Nutritional Therapy does not accept any form of health insurance, including Medicaid and Medicare. This is an intentional practice decision that allows Krystal to deliver care based entirely on clinical need — without insurance companies determining the length, scope, or content of your protocol.
We understand that cash-pay care requires planning, and we are transparent about all pricing upfront. Many clients use HSA (Health Savings Account) or Flex Spending account funds for their services, which provides a tax-advantaged way to invest in your nutritional health. We also honor a 20% Veteran discount to make services more accessible to those who have served.
J&J Holistic accepts all major credit cards, HSA (Health Savings Account) cards, and Flex Spending account cards. We do not accept cash, checks, insurance reimbursements, or Medicaid/Medicare. Payment is due at the time of service. Booking deposits are collected at the time of scheduling to secure your appointment.
Yes — and it's one of the things Krystal feels most strongly about. As a U.S. Air Force Veteran herself, she is committed to making functional nutritional care accessible to those who have served. J&J Holistic offers a 20% discount for all Veterans, including active duty military members, retired military, and their dependents.
To receive your Veteran discount, simply mention your Veteran status at the time of booking when speaking with our office manager Laura. No extensive documentation is required — we trust your service and are grateful for it. The discount applies to all consultation services at J&J Holistic.
A $75 booking deposit is required to secure an initial consultation appointment. This deposit is applied directly toward the cost of your visit — it is not an additional fee on top of your service price. For follow-up appointments, a $25 booking deposit is required.
Deposits are non-refundable for no-shows or cancellations made with fewer than 24 hours' notice. We ask for advance notice out of respect for Krystal's time and for other clients who may be waiting for that appointment slot. Please contact us as soon as possible at (800) 634-3363 if you need to reschedule.
All J&J Holistic appointments are conducted via telehealth through Practice Better — a HIPAA-compliant healthcare platform designed specifically for functional medicine and nutrition practitioners. Once you become a patient, you'll receive a private Practice Better portal link via email, which gives you access to appointment scheduling, your protocol, intake documents, secure messaging, and your video appointment room.
On the day of your appointment, you simply log into your Practice Better portal and join your scheduled video session. The appointment experience is similar to a video call — you'll see and speak with Krystal directly in real time. All communication within Practice Better is encrypted and private. Your appointment notes, protocol updates, and follow-up instructions are documented in your portal immediately after each visit. Visit your Client Portal page to learn more about Practice Better.
The technology requirements are minimal. You need a device with a camera and microphone — a smartphone, tablet, or laptop all work well. Practice Better is compatible with most modern web browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and has both iOS and Android mobile apps. No special software installation is required for web browser access.
A stable internet connection is recommended for the best video quality. Wi-Fi is preferable to cellular data for longer appointments. If you experience any technical difficulty setting up your Practice Better account or joining your first appointment, our team is happy to walk you through it — just reach out to jjholisticnutritionaltherapy@gmail.com or call (800) 634-3363 before your scheduled visit.
Yes — nationwide. J&J Holistic Nutritional Therapy serves clients across the United States via telehealth. Because Krystal practices as a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner — a credentialed nutrition professional, not a licensed physician or state-registered dietitian — her services are available to clients in any state without geographic restriction.
We regularly work with clients in California, New York, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Georgia, and beyond. Your location doesn't determine the quality of care you receive — every client gets the same thorough, personalized nutritional assessment and protocol regardless of where they live. All you need is a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera.
Supplements are typically a component of your nutritional protocol, but Krystal's approach is always targeted and purposeful — never a shotgun approach to throwing products at symptoms. Every supplement recommended has a specific therapeutic role in your protocol based on the deficiencies and imbalances identified through your NAQ and Symptom Burden Graph.
Supplement costs are separate from consultation fees and vary depending on your protocol's requirements. Krystal reassesses your supplement needs at every follow-up appointment, and products are typically reduced or phased out as your body heals and nutritional status improves. The goal is never indefinite supplementation — it is to give your body what it needs to restore its own function. More information about the supplement dispensary is on the Fullscript Dispensary page.
Fullscript is a professional-grade supplement dispensary platform available exclusively to licensed and certified healthcare practitioners. It is not a retail store — it is a practitioner-controlled dispensary where Krystal has curated the specific products she recommends for her clients' protocols. The brands available through Fullscript meet pharmaceutical manufacturing standards and undergo third-party testing for potency, purity, and safety.
Active J&J Holistic patients receive a private Fullscript invitation link through their Practice Better portal after their Initial Interview. You place orders directly through your personal Fullscript link, and supplements are shipped straight to your home. This eliminates the guesswork of trying to find equivalent products at retail — and ensures you're receiving exactly what Krystal has specified for your body. Learn more on the Dispensary page.
The supplements available through J&J Holistic's Fullscript dispensary are pharmaceutical-grade and third-party tested by independent laboratories for potency, purity, and contaminant safety. Krystal selects each product with careful consideration of your full health history, current medications, and specific clinical needs. She does not recommend supplements she hasn't thoroughly evaluated for safety and efficacy.
That said, individual responses to supplements can vary, and it is important to inform your primary care physician or any prescribing physicians of all supplements you are taking — especially if you are on prescription medications, as some nutrients can interact with certain drugs. Krystal's clinical approach is conservative and intentional: she recommends what is needed and nothing more. If you have concerns about specific supplements, discuss them directly with Krystal during your appointment.
